On the Sale Info tab of the quote WorkBook, there is a tax rate field. You can set a different tax rate for each quote. Click on the […] button next to the field to set the tax rate. When you click on the […] button, QuoteWerks will display a list of tax rates to choose from. You can either choose and existing tax rate, or create a new one.
You can click on the [New] button to create an entry for each of the different sales tax rates that you will be using. When entering the tax rate in the lookup list, you can enter the rate followed by “//” and then the description of the rate like “LA County”. So, in this example, the F2 lookup would look like "8.5//LA County". Adding a description for the rate makes it easier to find the appropriate tax rate.
You can also use the DataLink feature with this field so that QuoteWerks can automatically pull the sales tax rate for this customer from a field in the customer’s contact management software contact record. A different tax rate can be specified for each quote. In addition, the default tax rate for all new quotes can be set on the Documents tab under the Tools|Options menu.
When products or services (collectively known as items) are added to the quote, sales tax will be charged on all items that were setup to be taxable. You can specify which line items in the quote are taxable and which are not.
To specify whether a line item is taxable or not, select a line item, and right-click to choose Line Attributes. Then, select the Tax Code. The “taxibility” of a product can be specified in the product definition so that when the product is added to the quote, the correct Tax Code is set for the product. To set the Tax Code setting for a product definition, select the Products|Lookup menu, click on a product database (like the "Our Products" database for example), click on a product, and click on the [Edit Product] button. On the Edit Product window, there will be a Tax Code field where you can select the Tax Code.
